In Visual Basic, the project properties are structured a little differently.  If you find this question and you're in VB in VS2010, follow these instructions to generate an *app.manifest* file.

1. To create an **app.manifest** file, go to your project, and select properties.  Then click on **View Window Settings**, under the *Application* tab.

2. This should generate and open the **app.manifest** file, which is saved in your **My Project Folder**

I posted [a comment to Microsoft][1] that the Dialog Boxes in WPF are not VisualStyle enabled.

Joe Castro posted a workaround there which I don't really understand how to achieve, can anyone help?

**Here is he's response:**

For app compat reasons applications don't by default use v6 of the system common controls (available since XP). This doesn't really apply to WPF, but you also only see it in a few situations when using the native controls so it's not as prevalent as WinForms where their APIs are just wrapping the standard controls.

To fix this in WPF you need to explicitly opt-in to v6 comctl32 by specifying it in a manifest in your exe. This has to be done on the exe, so WPF can't do it as part of their DLLs. EnableVisualStyles does this at runtime but this way is generally better.

E.g., something like:

Change WPF application manifest?

Just to add to these suggestions, you probably want to optimize for production deployment. 

If you need to check the design mode in the ViewModel, you should only do so when in `DEBUG` mode, otherwise the released version will always have to perform unnecessary checks. 
When developing, if in design mode you can exit the method (or even stub out some fake data).

Put this code as the first line of your constructor (or whatever code is being called):

I'm developing a networked WPF application with the MVVM pattern and it seems that it's running and connecting to servers in the designer.

I know about the IsInDesignMode property, but I'm not sure how to access it in a ViewModel.

How do I stop my ViewModel code from running in the designer?

I have three kind of separate checkbox questions, all related to their use in the same datagrid.

1. I've loaded a datatable, `dtAll`, into a datagrid, `dgdList`, and bound each column to the imported data. The datagrid also has an initial column with checkboxes. How can I determine which rows of data have been checked. The intended functionality is for a user to mark two duplicates and merge together. I need to be able to gather row data from the datatable or datagrid whenever the checkbox column is checked

2. When I group my datagrid into tables, below, it somehow turns off my ability to check more than one checkbox. Everytime i select a new row, it clears all previous checkboxes. I would like to be able to check boxes in multiple rows. (Further, I have to click twice, once to select the row, once to edit the value of the checkbox to true - it would be great if I could do it in a single click).

Using checkboxes in a grouped vb.net datagrid

If your process is running in the foreground (not the background), it blocks the UI. You have to run it in the background so your UI gets free to do something else (like updating your progressbar). Take a look at the BackgroundWorker class, it lets you do exactly that.

I have several reports that all merge onto the same datatable. The user can click several to run and then hit the 'find records' button to run them all simultaneously. Since they each take so long, I'd like to update the user on the status bar as each of these stored procedures is called successfully. However, when I call the procedure, I only get one update at the very end listing everything.

What I'd like to do :



 'Initialize Progress Components
 repCompleted = 0
 ProgressBar1.Minimum = 0
 ProgressBar1.Maximum = repSel
 ProgressBar1.Value = repCompleted
 TextBlock2.Text = repCompleted & " of " & repSel & " reports finished"

Then as each report gets successfully run, update the `repCompleted` value and refresh

 repCompleted += 1
 TextBlock2.Text = repCompleted & " of " & repSel & " reports finished"
 ProgressBar1.Value = repCompleted

The problem is that these refreshes don't happen until I've exited the sub. I'd like it to count forward as each one finishes i.e. `1 of 4 completed`, `2 of 4 completed`, etc.

Any ideas?

No PropertyChanged event will be raised automatically simply because the type of a property is `ObservableCollection`. You would have to raise it in the setter:

I'm trying to use databinding in WPF with an MVVM pattern. So far, it seems that everything is plumbed up properly and I'm using the right type of classes and objects. My observable collection loads to first time correctly, but won't refresh on the datagrid when it changes. Observable Collections should automatically implement INPC and I've also provided a handler for it in my base class, so I'm confused why it is still not working and updating my UI. Here's my code below:

The GetRecords function is a call to a database that gets the most recent set of records available.

The `Person` class has properties `LastName` and `FirstName` (amoung others). As I understand it, if the ObservableCollection itself changes - like what I do by clearning and filling it back up, it should automatically fire the INPC event, but my DataGrid doesn't seem to refresh the second time around. Any ideas would be really helpful.

The First time the Set Method is called it will create a new _coreInfoData variable. Subsequent calls will replace the existing one by clear it's entire contents and looping through each item to add it back into the collection.

INotifyPropertyChanged event not firing when Observable Collection changed in WPF in VB.NET

The `DataGridColumn` is not actually part of the `VisualTree`, so bindings on the class cannot find their source

You can set things like the `Visibility` and `Width` property in the `CellStyle` or `HeaderStyle` of the `DataGridColumn`, although that isn't quite the same.

The closest I've found to a solution would be to create a [Freezable][1] object in your `<DataGrid.Resources>` that stores the binding, then use that `StaticResource` in the `Visibility` binding. It's not a pretty solution, but it's the only one I can find at this time.

I have a datagrid whose `ItemsSource` binds to a `CollectionViewSource`. 
In each column I specify the `Path` property of the binding to get the specific information to display.

What I'd like to do is toggle some of the columns with a checkbox if the user wants more info. To do this, I need to bind the visibility property to the value of the checkbox (with a converter) but I'm pretty sure the data context of the column is interfering with the binding.

If you don't want to download the WPF ToolKit (which has both the IntegerUpDown control or a MaskedTextBox), you can implement it yourself as adapted from this article on [Masked TextBox In WPF][1] using the [**`UIElement.PreviewTextInput`**][2] and [**`DataObject.Pasting`**][3] events.

I have a WPF application that I want to make it able to start always as an Adminstrator. I've been reading a lot about it and it seems that I have to create my own manifest file and pass it to the Application properties so that on runtime it starts as an Administrator.

The application itself loads a file and sometimes the file might demand administrator access so it can be modified. That is why I am looking for a way after the Application gets installed to be able to always get started in administrator mode.

Let's say I have a property called `Greeting` that is principally composed of two bound properties: `LastName` and `FirstName`. Can I subscribe to updates on first and last name so I can force a refresh with `OnPropertyChanged()` for my Greeting property. Here's a simple example:

The way this is currently set up, nothing will ever update the Greeting binding. I could put `OnPropertyChanged("Greeting")` in the setter for `FirstName` and `LastName`, but this feels wrong. In a more complex example, I'd rather each object just take care of refreshing itself when something changes.

Assuming your resource file looks something like this:

## What I've Tried

* I previously installed the Visual Studio 2019 RC, but have now uninstalled it. That version also gave the same error.  
* Reinstalling Visual Studio 2017 didn't help.
* This happens in old and freshly created projects.
* My coworker doesn't have this on his computer with the same projects.
* I did not have any problems last week. I haven't installed/uninstalled anything special.
