Using Javascript I'd like to remove the filename from the end of a string (path+filename), leaving me just the directory path.

Would regular expressions be ideal? Or, is there a simpler means of doing this using the string object?

The purpose of this code was to open finder to a directory. The data I was able to extract included a filename - since I was only trying to open finder (mac) to the location, I needed to strip the filename. Here's what I ended up with:

    var theLayer = app.project.activeItem.selectedLayers[0];
    //get the full path to the selected file
    var theSpot = theLayer.source.file.fsName;
    //strip filename from the path
    var r = /[^\/]*$/;
    var dirOnly = theSpot.replace(r, '');
    //use 'system' to open via shell in finder
    popen = "open"
    var runit = system.callSystem(popen+" "+"\""+dirOnly+"\"");

As [dkozl pointed out](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/24526975/cannot-locate-resource-themes-style-master-xaml#comment37982500_24526975), you can fix this by using a [**Pack URI**][2] and including the assembly name in your path

Assuming your resource file looks something like this:

```xml
<ResourceDictionary xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
                    xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"
                    xmlns:local="clr-namespace:WpfApp4.Themes">
    <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries>
        <ResourceDictionary Source="/Style/Master.xaml" />
    </ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries>
</ResourceDictionary>
```

Get your assembly name from your project properties:

in the constructor of PageWithoutMaster.

I get error: Cannot locate resource 'themes/style/master.xaml'

What am I doing wrong? Why is it adding the style folder in the path?
