Reiterating [flyx's comment][0], according to the [YAML spec on comments][1]:

> Comments are a presentation detail and must not be used to convey content information.

So assuming you're not going to be able to correlate the comments to any adjacent fields, you can just read the whole file as a string and match against any characters after a `#`


You can read the file and parse with [this regex](https://regexr.com/589bk) like this:

```js
var { promises: fs } = require('fs');

(async() => {
    let path = "./config.yaml"
    let file = await fs.readFile(path, "utf8")
    let matches = file.matchAll(/#.*/g)
    let comments = [...matches].map(m => m[0])
    console.log(comments)

If you have a yaml file that looks like this:

It will log the following:

I am trying to parse a YAML file. I was able to parse the file properly but the comments in the YAML file are not getting read. Is there any way to do it? Attaching the parser code and config.json. Also attaching the screenshot of the file and output for reference.

How can I parse a YAML file to read the comments as well using node.js?

You can use a site like [YAML Formatter][1] to format and *validate* your yaml:

In this case, the error message and location is a bit of red-herring.

The error is actually caused by a string that was accidentally terminated because of an unescaped quote symbol within the string.  A hint for this is the syntax highlighting of <code>'<b><i>We</i></b>'ll do cool stuff'</code>.

To fix, in this case, you can just skip wrapping the string quotes and rewrite like this:

```yml
title: We'll do cool stuff
draft: true
```

I have a `.yaml` file like this:

However, I get the following error:
