I think this is a Resharper bug and I'd submit it there. There can't be a modified closure in a linq statement that's executing immediately, like `Any` does.

VB is not my 'native language', but afaik the parentheses shouldn't make any difference in VB.Net (as it did in VB6).

Resharper's [`Access to Modified Closure`](http://confluence.jetbrains.com/display/ReSharper/Access+to+modified+closure) warnings are usually quite helpful. I was just noticing that when I call the [`Any`](http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.linq.enumerable.any.aspx) method inside of a for each loop, I'll get a warning if I don't use the open and close parenthesis. As soon as I add `()`, the error goes away.

Does the error itself go away, or have I just accidentally tricked Resharper's static code analysis detection.

`CType` is not a runtime function.  It's compile time.  The data type in the second argument must be a specified at compile time.

It's not the same as `Default<T>` in this instance because `NewBlankRow` is not a generic method.  Regardless, `Default<T>` is also compile time and is not available when `T` is specified as a run-time expression.

To create a default instance of `col.DataType` you could use reflection, such as `Activator.CreateInsatnce(col.DataType)`.

The backstory is that I want to be able to initialize a blank row on for a DataTable without having to always check for `DBNull.Value`.  I have an extension method that creates a new blank row and then fills each of the values in the row with the default type for that column.

For C-Sharper's, Calling `CType(Nothing, T)` should be the same as calling `Default<T>`

Is there a better way to do this?  Why can't I access col within `CType`?

Following suit from the suggestions here, I added an extension method to return a list of the selected items using LINQ for any type that Inherits from [<code>System.Web.UI.WebControls.<b>ListControl</b></code>][ListControl]. 

Every `ListControl` object has an [`Items`][ListControl.Items] property of type [`ListItemCollection`][ListItemCollection].  `ListItemCollection` exposes a collection of [`ListItems`][ListItems], each of which have a `Selected` property.
